Moche Route (7 days)
Day 1 – Lima
Today we will meet you upon arrival at the Jorge Chavez International airport. Right after that, we will be transferred to our hotel in Lima.
Day 2 – Lima
Today we will have our city tour of Lima. Here we will visit the most important districts of the city (modern and colonial). We will visit the neighborhoods of Miraflores, Barranco and Down Town Lima, where we will have the chance to visit the Cathedral and the San Francisco Monastery. We will also have the chance to visit the Main Square and see the Presidential Palace.
Day 3 – Trujillo
After breakfast, we will be transferred to the airport to take our flight to Trujillo. Once in Trujillo, we will take our private transfer to our hotel located at the main square of the city. After gathering some preliminary information on Trujillo from your guide, you will have the rest of the afternoon to explore Trujillo.
Day 4 – Trujillo
Right after breakfast, we will head to the Huaca de la Luna. This interesting archeological site it is supposed to be the capital of the Moche Culture. Here we will see the different levels of this enormous structure and see amazing wall paintings that remain untouched after centuries. Since these structures are so delicate, many of them are still being slowly excavated – so we will have the chance to see archeologist working on them and doing excavation and conservancy work. After our visit, we will continue to Huanchaco beach which is home to many surfers and fishermen. These Moche fisherman still use the reed boats that were used hundreds of years ago by their ancestors, keeping alive their culture – we will spend time talking to the fisherman and watching their ancient fishing methods. For lunch, we will stop at a local ¨Cebicheria¨ to sample this local dish made with fresh fish. Before heading back to Trujillo, we will stop at Chan Chan – an amazing mud city that has been recovered by archeologists. We will arrive back in Trujillo with enough time to take a short “siesta” before a delicious dinner.
Day 5 – Trujillo/Chilayo
We start today at ¨El Brujo¨, an important archeological site know for its famous ¨Lady of Cao¨. Its discovery is very important because it is the first woman’s tomb found with such a big richness and evidence of power. After visiting the museum and mummy, we will continue to Chiclayo. After checking in to our hotel, we will have lunch at a traditional restaurant and then continue on to Ventarron. Ventarron is an archeological complex built in roughly 3,000 BC that has recently been recovered. Here you will see amazing wall paintings with elaborated colors, not common for the age.
Day 6 – Chiclayo
After breakfast, we will head to “El Mercado Modelo” where we will see all the main ingredients of the Moche Gastronomy including vegetable, fruits, meat, fish. We will also visit the “Chamanery” area, where traditional doctors find the ingredients for their medicines and magic rituals. After visiting the market, we will go to Huaca Rajada, a famous pyramid where El Señor de Sipan was found. This is probably the most important discovery of the region, not only because of the jewels found, but also because it was undisturbed by the Spanish treasure seekers. After lunch, we will head to Tucume where we will spend the night at the Horcones hotel. This small hotel has a unique atmosphere with its architecture well blended into the surrounding environment.
Day 7– Tucume/Lima
After breakfast, we will go to Tucume pyramids. Here we will have the chance to see an impressive complex that is currently being recovered. After enjoying the views at Tucume, we will head to Tumbas Reales Museum where El Señor de Sipan has been relocated along with all his treasures. Our final stop will be for lunch at another traditional restaurant where we will have the chance to delight ourselves with some tasty regional food. After enjoying this unforgettable meal, we will go to the airport for our flight back to Lima where our private transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to the hotel.
