Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

Day 1 Lima: Today we will take a tour in the historic heart of Lima. Guided tour to the historic heart of Lima, the most important city of the Spanish colony in the Americas. Visit the Main Square, Iglesia de San Francisco and the modern part of Lima. 

Day 2 To Cusco: Early in the morning our private transportation will take us to the Lima Airport for our flight to Cusco, the archeological capital of America. Transfer to our hotel in Cusco for 3 nights.

Day 3 Cusco: Today we will visit the nearby ruins around Cusco, including Sacsayhuaman with its remarkable Inka masonry, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. Return to Cusco and visit the Koriqancha and the cathedral, one of America’s most impressive.

Day 4 Chinchero, Ollantaytambo & Pisac: A full day tour through the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. Our tour will start by visiting the “Away Yachana Wasi” (learning house in Quechua) and the remaining ruins at Chinchero. We continue visiting the fortress of Ollantaytambo and Pisac.

Day 5 Cusco – Soyrococha: We leave Cusco at 6am and pass through the towns of Izcuchaca , Limatambo and Mollepata before arriving at Soraypampa (approx. Mid Day). After Lunch we meet our mule drivers and begin the trek. Afterwards it’s a three hour walk to our first campsite at Soyrococha.

Day 6 Salkantaypampa – Challway: After a good breakfast (7am) we prepare ourselves to undertake the long and most difficult day of the trip. We cross the Salkantay pass (4,500mt/14,760ft) approx. 11 am. At this site we’ll observe the snow peaks, glaciers and waterfalls of the Salkantay range. After a 2-hour lunch in Huayrac, we trek to our second campsite at Challway

Day 7 Challway – Santa Teresa: This day will be unforgettable because of the great variety of flora and fauna we’ll see. Starting from Challway we’ll pass through the village of Arranniyuc before descending towards the cloud forest. We’ll follow the course of the Santa Teresa River, observing varieties of orchids and cataracts of great magnitude. We’ll enjoy the thermal hot springs in Lluskamayu before arriving at our campsite in at Santa Teresa town (approx. 5pm). That same night, we will visit Santa Teresa’s hot springs enjoying some Peruvian Beer.

Day 8 Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes: The start is at 7:30 am taking a truck to Hydroelectric. Our final trek following the rail road truck to Aguas Calientes. On the way we can see Macchu Picchu from the bottom as well as an incredible view of the nature around it. As soon as we get to Aguas Calientes we will check-in to our hotel

Day 9 Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu: Today is dedicated to visiting the magnificent site of Machu Picchu. If your adventure spirit is still awake, we can climb the Waynapicchu, the mountain behind Machu Picchu. In the afternoon (approx. 4:00), we’ll return by train to Cusco.

Day 10 To Lima: Early in the morning we will take our flight to Lima and transfer to our hotel where a day room is available until late afternoon transfer to the airport.
